What is required for students to participate in SDAIE?

SDAIE, or Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English, is an instructional approach tailored for English learners that integrates content area instruction with language development. For students to effectively participate in SDAIE, a fundamental requirement is that they possess at least intermediate fluency in English. This level of language proficiency ensures that students can engage with academic content while still developing their language skills in a supportive environment.

Intermediate fluency allows students to comprehend key concepts, participate in discussions, and collaborate with peers, all of which are essential for successful learning in an academic context. At this stage, students are typically able to understand and use a wider range of vocabulary and grammatical structures, which facilitates their engagement with both the content and the language.
